"Lowell Point is the main kayak staging area on the western shore of Resurrection Bay. The launch and retrieval beach lies on the south side of Lowell Point at the end of the road. Several reliable haulout beaches lie along the 4-nm paddle route to the CAINES HEAD RECREATION AREA."

Tonsina Point can also be accessed by water taxi or by simply hiking the CAINES HEAD SHORELINE TRAIL from Lowell Point. Fourth of July Creek Area
"Directly east of Seward, across the head of Resurrection Bay is a wooded valley with an extensive gravel out wash plain. A glacier stream known as Fourth of July Creek descends the valley from Godwin Glacier. The Fourth of July beach is an excellent camping and kayak staging area from which to launch and paddle the eastern shore of Resurrection Bay. The distance from Fourth of July Creek to Thumb Cove is 5 nautical miles."

Thumb Cove
" THUMB COVE STATE MARINE PARK is a scenic anchorage and terrific base camp for hikers, campers, and kayakers. The vertical grandeur encompassing Thumb Cove is unique to the area. The precipitous pillow lava cliffs and icy glacial cirques dominate the upper head wall that rises more than 4,000 feet above the cove’s surface. At the cove’s head, along the northern shore, stands of lifeless spruce trees reveal evidence of major land subsidence from the great Alaska earthquake of 1964. In Thumb Cove State Marine Park are two state maintained PUBLIC USE CABINS: SPRUCE GLACIER AND PORCUPINE GLACIER CABINS "
